There is some contention as to how important Evan Roberts was to the 1904 Welsh Revival.
It was the first revival where the newspapers played an important role.

They seem to have focused on Roberts, and as a result, what was going on elsewhere in Wales tended to be ignored. It must be remembered that the Revival did not start with Evan Roberts and a great deal was going on in Wales at that time that had nothing to do with him.
Having said that, I am going to focus this biography on Roberts, because by looking at his life we can get a good understanding of what happened in those heady days of 1904.
Roberts was born in Loughor, near Swansea, a town of around 2,000 people at the time.
