Tom Clancy (April 12, 1947 – October 1, 2013) was an American author best known for his military-themed techno-thriller novels. He was a part of the New York Times bestseller list for over two decades and sold over 100 million copies of his books.
Early Life
Tom Clancy was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Thomas Clancy Sr.
and Catherine Clancy. He was the second of four children and was raised in a Catholic household. He attended Loyola Blakefield high school and graduated in 1965.

He then attended Loyola College in Baltimore, where he earned a degree in English literature in 1969.
Career
Clancy began his career as an insurance salesman and later worked as an associate editor for the small-town newspaper, the Maryland Coast Dispatch.
In 1984, he wrote his first novel, The Hunt for Red October, which was published by the Naval Institute Press. The novel was a success and was later adapted into a movie starring Sean Connery.
