Kappelhoff earned his undergraduate degree from St. John's University in Collegeville, Minn., in 1983 and his J.D. from the Washington College of Law at American University in 1988.
Prior to his appointment to the bench, Kappelhoff was an associate professor of law at the University of Minnesota Law School. He had also taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland School of Law, Georgetown University Law Center, and the Washington College of Law at American University.[1]
